Doug and Mary update us on their Pacific adventures from their hidey-hole in Port Fitzroy, Great Barrier Island, New Zealand

Hi Rob
Just to let you know we are receiving your emails and enjoy keeping up to date with the various happenings of the Cruising Section. We are presently in Port Fitzroy, Great Barrier Island New Zealand. Actually we have just sought an anchorage for refuge from anticipated bad weather with predicted 45 knot winds over the next couple of days. This is a wonderful sailing venue if any members consider heading this way. It rivals anything we experienced during our 14 month sail in and around Tasmania and offers a number of well sheltered anchorages and glorious walks. In particular, Mount Hobson here presents a challenge to anyone seeking to spend a good seven hours climb up and back and the views at the top are truly spectacular. It isn't as high as Mt Rugby in Tasmania but rivals its beauty in every particular. This is our second sail to New Zealand, having sailed to Vanuatu, the loyaties and New Caledonia last year and returned here. We intend to sail out into the South Pacific again in a couple of months time and will endeavour to put an article together soon for your interest. please convey our fond regards to all the FSC cruisers and we hope to catch up with you all agin in the foreseeable future.
