Mintaka II laid up in the French Riviera for winter
Dave and Joanne George have been away from FSC for 7 years but recently made contact thanks to the wonderful www!
We left the Club in 2001 sailing north about, around to Brisbane. The next season we visited the Louisiade Archipelago in PNG and then in 2003 we joined the Darwin to Kupang Rally, cruised through Indonesia, then the west coast of Malaysia and up to Phuket in Thailand. We spent most of that season cruising the waters between Phuket and Lankawi Island (in Malaysia). We were in Phuket during the tsunami and left a few weeks after to visit the Andaman Islands and then cross the Indian Ocean. We sailed to the Maldives and then up to Oman, Yemen and through the Red Sea and Suez canal to Turkey where we cruised the 2005 season.
Since arriving in the Med we have cruised the northern summer in the Mediterranean and layed up Mintaka II on the hard and returned home for the northern winter. In the 2006 season we cruised through Greece, across the bottom of Italy and left Mintaka II in Malta for the winter. In the 2007 season we cruised the Adriatic, mainly through Croatia and after visiting Venice left Mintaka II at Monfalcone in NE Italy last year.
This season we cruised back down through Croatia, crossed to Italy and sailed across the bottom of the Italian mainland, along the south coast of Sicily, dropped down to Tunisia and then visited Sardinia, Corsica and Elba before returning to the Italian coast, cruising the Italian and French Rivieras to finish up in Gruissan in the south of France. Mintaka II is currently laid up for the northern winter at the Nautiland Yard at Gruissan.
Plans for next year are to cruise Spain and drop down to the Canaries, crossing the Atlantic to start the long trip on home in early 2010.
Lat / Long for Gruissan are 43 deg 6.19 min N / 3 deg 5.65 min E. We'd be pleased to be included on the FSC Cruisers map. I think I'd prefer to just e-mail you from time to time to update our position and we look forward to keeping up with where other FSC cruisers are from the website. I haven't set up a blog or website so that information is about all we have.
Regards,
Dave & Joanne George
