The pre-departure briefing is planned for 2000 in the Bridge at FSC on Friday 1 February with the departure expected to be at 0600 the following morning. We hope to all sail in-company to Bunbury so if the weather is not right for Saturday, we may leave on Friday - be prepared.

The activities associated with this year's Bunbury cruise will have an environmental theme, Bunbury and Busselton being within one of the 25 global biodiversity hotspots (in terms of numbers of species and numbers of threatened species).

Excursions being organised include:

  • a conducted tour of the Mangrove Boardwalk (regularly visited by a large number of migratory birds). This is the most southern occurrence of white mangroves in WA. The white mangrove is usually found north of Shark Bay;
  • Down Challenger Passagea visit to the Dolphin Discovery Centre;
  • a photographic competition at the Big Swamp Conservation Wetland;
  • a dinghy excursion to the Leschenault Peninsula conservation park (or else to the mouth of the Collie River);
  • the usual pilgrimage to the hinterland between the Ferguson Valley and Collie to seek out the best of last season's vintage.

In the second week of February, we are moving on to the Geographe Bay Yacht Club from which we will visit a number of anchorages in Geographe Bay and undertake a visit to one of the original farming properties in the Capel area.

On the return journey, the cruise group will stop off in Bunbury and Mandurah for a couple of days, returning to Fremantle by Saturday 23rd February.
